Dattoli Cancer Center

Medical Doctor - Radiation Oncology

He originally developed an interest in pure sciences while growing up in Poughkeepsie, New York. At the University of California, Berkeley, he majored in marine biology with the goal of one day using what he was learning there for the good of the human race. The next year, he went to Poughkeepsie, where he excelled in biochemistry at Vassar College and graduated from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1984.

Non-surgical cancer therapy was a particular focus of Dattoli's throughout his medical studies. He concentrated his efforts on developing treatment options for prostate cancer using brachytherapy, aware of achievements with other forms of cancer. More than 30 years ago Dr. Richard Sorace attracted Dattoli from the Memorial Sloan Cancer Center to go to Tampa and co-found a brachytherapy clinic.

Dr. Dattoli and Sorace formed a successful cooperation to treat prostate cancer without surgery. Dattoli Cancer Center was eventually created in Sarasota when they relocated their practice there. A member of the American College of Radiology, Dr. Dattoli is licensed to practice medicine in the states of Florida, California, and New York. He also has a board certification in radiation oncology.

As a main investigator on multiple cancer and radiation treatment trials, Michael Dattoli is well-versed in the field. Brachytherapy, cancer, radiation, and urology are among the many topics in which he has written widely. More than 50 peer-reviewed papers on prostate brachytherapy have been co-authored or co-authored by him, including various textbooks and pamphlets.
